During his travels with fur trade brigades through the Willamette Valley, David Douglas not only collected some of his most prized plants, birds, and small mammals, but also made acute observations about its landscape and peoples. This slide presentation will explore both some of the valley’s totem species and the relevance of what Douglas saw two centuries ago to the place as it exists today.
