In this illustrated presentation, author Jack Nisbet will begin by tracing the web of connections between North West Company agent David Thompson and the Corp of Discovery as they converged on the Pacific Northwest in 1800-1812. Then we will examine the ways in which, after the Hudson’s Bay Company assumed control of the region, Scottish naturalist David Douglas built on the scientific accomplishments of Lewis and Clark. Special attention will be paid to contacts between these newcomers and local tribal people, and the way those relationships still resonate across the landscape today.

This presentation is free and open to the public.

The program is part of a celebration of the 206th birthday of Sacagawea’s son “Pomp” or Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, born February 11th, 1805.

A birthday signing with refreshments will be held following Mr. Nisbet’s presentation.  The Idaho Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation will hold a meeting following the birthday party.
