In the spring and summer of 1826, Scottish naturalist David Douglas traveled the length of the Colville Valley no less than three times as he made the first systematic collections of flora and fauna in our region. His descriptions of the people and landscapes he saw along the way provide valuable clues about how the place where we live today has changed over the past two centuries. This slide presentation will revisit some of Douglas’s places, relive some of his whacky adventures, and try to understand what his work means going forward.
